1. The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is arguably the most popular natural attraction in the United States, and certainly the most popular in Arizona. The Colorado River formed this natural beauty many years ago. The South Rim of the Grand Canyon, which has a variety of vantage points, is where most visitors go.

2. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area

The Glen Canyon National Recreational Area is home to Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam. Lake Powell is manmade and the largest artificial lake in the USA, it was formed by the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam in 1964.

3. Monument Valley

It's easy to assume you're on another planet while you're taking in the sights at Monument Valley Tribal Park. With its steep rock formations and massive sand dunes, the area is challenging but magnificent.

4. Jerome

This former mining town is now a ghost town, which is a great stop off while in Arizona. There are great views from the town and the main street has plenty of shops and places to eat.

5. Sedona

Sedona, which is about an hour and a half drive from Phoenix, is surrounded by gorgeous red mountains and jagged rocky precipices and makes for a terrific day trip. The views here are spectacular and can be enjoyed by hiking, mountain biking, or off-road jeep rides for those who prefer to relax a little.

6. Hoover Dam

The Hoover Dam is one of the world's engineering marvels, and it is difficult not to be amazed. The dam, which was built in 1935, controls the Colorado River and connects Arizona and Nevada.

7. Havasu Fall

The Havasu Falls are 100 feet high and during times of heavy water flow, it appears to be two falls as the water forks and cascades in two directions. 

8. Canyon De Chelly National Monument

The National Monument of Canyon de Chelly is home to unusual houses built into the steep cliff sides including a dwelling called the White House, which is thought to have been constructed in 1050AD.
