The cost of living is higher than it’s been in 40 years. As prices go up, consumers are often paying more for less — sometimes without even realizing it. In this episode we follow reporter Travis Dhanraj as he investigates the sneaky ways in which inflation could be affecting consumers, and delve into the different types of ‘flation’ — from shrinkflation and tipflation to greedflation and others.
CORRECTION: At 11:04 the unit price calculation is incorrect. It should be 38 cents/100g instead of 0.38 cents/100g and 66 cents/100g instead of 0.66 cents/100g.

Wait… so the owners have to increase the menu price up 30% to pay a livable wage. Which is being paid by the customers technically. I might as well pay the waitress the 10% tip then to pay the 30% in increase. And if they place was actually busy, the old menu price + tips would probably give them over $30/hour, which is more then that his so-call livable wage?
Don't go to Loblaws for food!
Better solution would be vote out those who put us in this situation at the next chance.
That premier is smart 🧠, we are not a communism state here, the free market is the power to beat inflation, I was suprise see a leader has a brain 🧠 in Canada 🍁 land.
Good thing that I moved overseas before this whole inflation nonsense started. I live in a low cost of living country and work remotely. Anyone who has a choice to do the same but not take it is just asking to be fleeced and stuck in the same rat race of spending almost all of what you earn.
Aquaflation was not one I knew so learnt something new
I believe that the companies who gouged the prices out of their greed should be punished by confiscating their extra profit!
I bought oranges instead of margarine and laundry detergent. BAD idea. Turns out you need margarine to cook everything and dish soap doesn’t work well in washing machine.
Tipping is the act of moving the responcibility from the employer paying an acceptable wage to the consumer directly paying it and being uncontrolled. Tipping is completly unfair, the person who handed you the product wants a tip but all the people who indirectly handled the product do not. All tips should go away, it infers a 3rd world country way. I'm not against paying I am against unfair and employers moving their responcibility to others.
Just cancel Disney+. Liberal party approved!
Inflation is producing a slew of problems throughout the world, including food shortages, diesel and heating fuel shortages, and housing prices and financial market crash. This global collapse might end up being a part of us for a very long time. With inflation currently at about 9%, my primary concern is how to maximize my savings/retirement fund of about $300k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains.
TLDR: 10:33
save ur time on this bullshit show
How to survive inflation: FIRE TRUDEAU AND DEFUND CBC. 🎯
Having worked at a Mod pizza we got tips spread out to the employees, the GM gets a slightly higher percentage even if they're or any other staff isn't presently working.
Poaching, that's the answer to survival. Live like the animals and don't let governments and there made up laws and ideals stop you from ur animalistic nature. Ftw
I just hate when people look down on you when you do not tip and really sometimes I do not have enough.
…irritating music in background.
To all those who believe and vote Trudeau blindly – he is lying to you by blaming Covid, Putin, climate change, or how US and other countries are facing inflation as a GENERAL thing. You don't have to believe me, but please google yourselves the inflation in China between 2020 and 2022, and you will se that their inflation staid around 2%. We have so much protentional and resources that our dollar could have stayed at par with USD 1:1, since the Harper era. Yet, mister Trudeau like to print $$ because it is easy to do and there is no accountability for that, or is it? well were do you think the inflation comes from?
Conservatives is the only way to stop this.
For those asking for more transparency on how the prices are set, why you don’t go to college and try to start your own business and find the answer on your own if you can
I find this most interesting………the most subsidized media CBC is telling Canadians how to survive inflation. Why doesn’t CBC show us how it is done and run your business without tax payer’s dollars. 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
added oils to products are not healthy
tipping culture is not needed in modern canada, all servers are guaranteed minimum wage no matter what. tipping is common practice in the U.S. as servers there are paid less than minimum wage and rely on tips to live
Tipping lol. How about fuel Sir charge's on trucking the mail delivery from Canada post. Adding to justinflation.
1 liter of gasoline hit 55.2% and is now at +10.5% from the beginning of 2020.
I don't expect that the bakery (2 man operation) will EVER lower their price, nor will the small grocery store (+10% to +45%) across the street either.
They've simply gone and CUT THEIR OWN THROATS as I will NEVER BUY ANYTHING THERE AGAIN…..
It's ALL "Real Canadian Superstore" and Walmart from here on.
