Modern life is cluttered with stuff, social connections, ideas, and stimuli. Worries and wishes fill our minds, and we’re always restless because we fail to distinguish the forest from the trees. When immersed in complexity, it’s difficult to see the essential. “The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak,” stated painter Hans Hofmann. This video explores how to simplify your life.

What rises complexity and reduces simplicity in life. One word: "A woman". The more you woman get control the more complex and less simplicity is possible. You simply have to decide if you prefer simplicity or prefer sex and company. But even if you go for the later, after a few years you will be separated and can (or even MUST if obliged to pay alimony) enjoy simplicity again.
It's hard to disagree that our life is overcomplicated and that we are making it worse ourselves. I missed practical advice on how to reverse that trend, though.
Silly.
Most people just want a 1 bedroom apartment and cannot buy it. They don't try to buy 6 bedrooms palaces. So luring yourself with such philosophical garbage won't help. Unless your'e ready to live on the street.
The reality is if you want a simple life …. Do NOT HAVE DEBT.
Debt is the driver of modern western life …. Debt is why people must work, just do this and that.
Debt leads to more debt, more desperation, a greater need to work ever longer hours.
Get out of debt and realise how little you need to live on without paying debt and interest.
You haven't gotten rid of that flower pot yet?
Grazie.
"If my time is limited, my choices must be up to par."
First of all, I love your videos. They are what gets me through the day at times. However I would be interested in hearing more opinions on this philosophy because in my opinion it sounds like a bit of a reductionist philosophy. Just being satisfied with less is not gonna be enough. If that was the case all poor people would be happy but they are mostly I imagine, not. This philosophy seems like it was written by a well off person who had too much wealth and then looked at poor people and thought "they must be happier because they have less to worry about". Its just not that simple.
There are a ton of socio-economic factors that all influence our ability to be happy. Happiness, sadly, is not always a choice – it really does depend on contextual factors such as money, and the shelter, food and opportunities that money provides. Imagine looking at a poor person and telling them they should want less so they can be happier – it really does sound like the bullshit advise rich people give on TV to poor people – just stop being poor and be happy.
It is still a useful mindset to have but I just don't think the meaning of life is to just be alive like a feather floating in the breeze.
Part of being human is having dreams, ambitions and goals and being disappointed by those dreams, ambitions and goals; if you take that away…man has nothing; apathy sets in, poetry and art become worthless and soon we are all making a beast of ourselves with the mantra of less is more. He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man…sure…but then you are no longer a man, you are an animal, a thing more base than being a human in terms of reaching its full potential.
Human life is suffering…its that simple; deal with it. We don't suffer simply because we want more. We suffer because that is our lot. Happiness is a worthless pursuit. You will only be disappointed.
His philosophy sounds like great advice to give to rich people…but as for the poor…I don't think its worth repeating to. At what point should I stop wanting more exactly?? If I have no car is it bad to want a car?? If I have no shelter is it bad to want shelter?? This philosophy only makes sense if you are rich or if you are a drug addict that struggles to live in the moment.
Side note: The 'Th' sound in the name Thomas is pronounced as a T, as in Tomas. It is the worst sound in the English language to pronounce so no biggie. Only the Spanish know how hahahaha. This sounds is also the reason why my mother warned me never to speak with my mouth full of food at the dinner table lest I spray food all over the place in an effort to make the 'th' sound 🙂 lol. I apologize for the long message. Im unemployed at the moment. Nothing to do but chat online all day.

I stopped watching your video and after I learned about digital minimalism from your video. I will turn off my phone now.
I think the best way to simplify one's life is to divorce and be single. Par none.
I have to say that this channel is the most life changing 8to the positiv) channel i ever found.
Having money would simplify everything considering you need it just to take a shit.
I couldn't help noticing a laptop in many of the scene's depicting minimalism/simplicity 🙂 Something also essential for me to be content with a simple life, that and an internet connection.

Well, you certainly don't need the potted plant.
I have always enjoyed your videos. It helps me stay grounded. I am an italian living in North america and I find that I am just over cluttered with to much here and I cant stand this.
