I had the best time at galaxy’s edge, and I think a lot of the reason for that is that it focused primarily on the sequel timeline with sequel characters. The sequels are the only part of Star Wars that I’m really a fan of, so it was very much appreciated.
Hmmmmm considering that ticket prices have well outpaced earning I think that’s a larger factor in that disparity
I think the "experience" thing has something to do with videogames too.
I wonder if they ever going to expand galaxies edge and perhaps include a starter destroyer that would be crazy but good at the same time. They actually couldn't make it look like it's floating in the air. Like they did the Avatar thing in animal Kingdom like the floating rocks.
Great presentation! Having experienced both Universal's and Disney's latest tech-additions, I have concluded that upon departure from the parks at the end of the day, I experienced different feelings. When leaving Universal, we were excitedly reviewing our day's adventures. When we left Disney, we expressed disappointment; we felt cheated. Comparing both parks' latest technologies isn't related to comparing the guest experience. Universal wins hands-down.
I just went to both Harry Potter areas at Universal and spent a grand total of 30 bucks for 2 days worth of food there. The next day I went to Galaxys Edge and ended up spending 1,000+ bucks on clothes, board games, food and souvenirs in one day.
I just visited Dollywood for the first time and they force all guests to exit the park through the main gift shop.
I'll be honest, this is probably the best ad for this ride. I'm not particularly deep into Star Wars but I want to see what this ride is all about
Galaxy’s Edge looks cool, I just wish I was rich enough to experience it
Kind of annoying by all the little pieces of just plain wrong information in this video. There aren’t long lines for lightsabers, droids, or Oga’s cantina as those are all reservation only. Also did you really say that Disney doesn’t use humor in its attractions? That’s just… wrong. And pandora was Disney’s initial answer to universal’s Harry Potter stuff whereas you portrayed it as having come before.
Made me realise that East Asian gardens are built like theme parks. Or theme parks are built like East Asian gardens.
As someone who went to galaxy's edge recently I can solidly say that from personal experience that if you're not blinded by nostalgia, that the magic wears off REALLY QUICKLY. Life in the star wars universe sucks. It's dirty, crowded, loud, and chaotic, and Disney captured that all super well. The walkways are so cramped with buildings that it's hard to feel like you can breathe, and with stroller parking and long lines there's barely anywhere to stop and take it all in, so you're constantly shoved along the path by other park attendees. The sodas are cool, and the actors are great, but the attractions are only slightly above average, the one restaurant is slightly below average (where basically everywhere else in Disney world is well above average) and the whole place is really hampered by the fact that everything is themed around the sequels and noth the original trilogy. As someone who wasn't too huge of a fan of episodes 8 or 9, when galaxy's edge canonically takes place between the two episodes, it's a B+ experience at best, and I'd much rather spend my time at Epcot enjoying all of the different experiences and rides and food and shopping options, than at Hollywood studios to see galaxy's edge
Edit: that's not to mention one of the few saving graces of galaxy's edge is lightsaber and droid building, which unless you have a super small party and get reservations like a year in advance, isn't happening.
Time to play some 10 pin….. bauwling?
My only complaint – is the story involves sequel trilogy content and characters…. Gag
It’s too bad the movies suck now.
This is crazy, but I could simply buy a ticket to most european city and have a pretty similar experience.
It’s not reflective on how to design something when it’s carried by the love of an IP. They could have made galaxy edge in a parking lot and the popularity would be similar. And a less popular IP or no IP would not be as popular.
Ngl that was one of the best sponsors transfers I’ve ever seen
Wow. Thank's Day9 for showing me this Channel. Love to see more content like this
Galaxies Edge SUCKS! Imagine having access to all the planets in Starwars and you choose a made up planet no ones heard of? In the off chance that MAYBE our favorite characters visited this planet while off screen? Hear me out guys! Instead of building Hogwarts, why don't we build some random street in Downtown London in the off chance that Harry, Ron, and Hermione spent a summer hanging out there while not at school. Its mind boggling to think that Batuu was signed off on as a good idea.
Star Wars without the Star Wars. LOL
Bob Iger recently just returned from retirement as Disney CEO ousting his successor. I wonder what he intends to do now.
Takes tons of $$ to create and run this stuff. Be happy it exists at all. Or better yet, anyone can do it right?
star wars rebels wearing covid ppe is something I didnt know I needed to see
The problem with batu is the location isn't well beloved and isn't old enough for nostalgia is mostly just a pretty display
This video was sponsored by Disney and Bob Iger's PR team.
Its now weird hearing sam not talk about which plane he needs to get on
I don't go to theme parks for experiences, I go to ride the rides. So to say I hate the mall that is galaxies edge is an understatement. Then again I hate Disney.
I'm a Florida resident. They used to give us decent discounts for that, but that stopped years ago. Since I don't have kids, I refuse to give those bastards a cent of my money.
A friend from the Netherlands said, "It (these theme parks) shows America at its worst – fake, plastic, expensive, bells & whistles, mindless dumb-downed "entertainment" and constant marketing." I could not agree more. No matter how you nuance it, you can't avoid the facts: Galaxy Edge is a fake expensive store selling crappy food and dull merchandise at ridiculous prices. Oh, and there are a couple of rides.
But sadly, it's not ridiculous if you can persuade millions that standing in line for hours for a 3 minute ride or paying a fortune for mediocre food and average hotel is "fun". Especially when you could go on a Norwegian cruise in the Caribbean (for example) for half the cost. Yes, I've been to DW and U – kids and grandkids and the ONLY good visit was Epcot's opening when we were dating. You cannot imagine the difference – fine dining, 90% fewer shops, scientists and engineers talking to visitors about the "World of Tomorrow", access to the research and behind the scenes information. We returned 12 years later to find a classic "park" hawking crap from every corner and serving crap in massive factory settings.
This is like that souvenir shop in Hollywood that lets you be part of an award winning movie featuring Johnny Depp and Bill Gates if you spend money inside it
A $50 wand is literally a stick.
The “humor doesn’t work on a ride” idea is challenged by Jungle Cruise which still markets itself as a boat safari but let’s be real, the attraction’s draw is it’s a ride on a day one attraction that hasn’t been meaningfully updated with a person who is going to Roast every show piece like it was his job (cause it is). Not only that, a guest who is in the know of effects can set up gags on any attraction. My brother, who is 6’1” and of a stocky build has a gift for screaming like a little girl and a knowledge of Disney World attraction’s timing that allows him to pull off some funny pranks on fellow park goers. I’ve seen him realize the 4 year old boy standing next to us in the Haunted Mansion’s stretching portrait gallery. Knowing the scariest moment was about to come up and the kid was almost certainly going to break out in hysterics, he looks at me, smiles, and the lights go out. The next thing I know is my ears are ground zero for the loudest scream I’ve ever heard (think Homer Simpson’s high pitched scream). The room busts out laughing, none louder than the 4 year old who almost was ready to nope out but continued on with our group to board the ride (my brother positioned our group directly behind the kid to make confirm the kid was good).
Yes, great design and immersion but it's Harry Potter to begin with. It's the biggest selling story ever with world building bigger (less intricate but bigger) than any other sci-fi or fantasy story. The number of things Rowland invented/imagined and companies happily produced its massive. LotR has a massive fan base but outside of novels and movies absolutely no commercial value. No merchandise (a few games). Star Wars would probably be the only franchise that has very iconic designs. Light saber, dark Vader and the Storm Troopers, x wing, death star and millennium falcon. Several games and a lot of lego. And it's enjoyed by more than one generation.
But it's still all very little compared to the world of Harry potter. Even before the movies, the first HP book was one of the best selling children/youth novels of all time.
Idk how many 10 years old kids read it and hoped and prayed that they got a letter too on their next birthday. Starwars is cool but it's not real. Harry Potter, from the get-go, pulled kids in by fusing the ordinary world together with the fantasy world in a way that no other author had ever done before.
And flying an x-wing through space in a game gets old some day. Sitting in a pub like hogsmeade that is just beautifully designed never gets old.
Heck I'm sure if any regular city train would introduce a candy lady again, even without the magic context, the transportation company would earn a lot of money just because its cosy and people miss this feeling. Harry potter universe provides coziness too. Gothic castles, open fire common rooms, games. These are all things people enjoy anyway.
I'm sure it's a great themed area and that working with/under the author instead of buying the rights and doing whatever (Disney: star wars) helped to stay true to what the fans want. But the success comes from the biggest fan base that a story ever had (the collective sales of the 7 books surpassed the collective sales of bibles in the centuries old history of book printing. A long time ago). And there is no stopping this hype train. I'm not a die-hard fan who dreses in robes and swings a wand but I still buy and get gifted things from the HP universe here and there and I'm looking forward to explore this section of the universal studios.
I had a very unique. I got into ride of the resistance, and got some pizza and got food poisoning before I could go to my reservation at the cantina
I went to Diagon Alley and Galaxy’s edge back to back days. Diagon alley was by far the most immersive experience I have ever seen, I truly forgot I was in a theme park. Galaxy’s edge was okay, but I always knew I was in a theme park. I think part of it is that Galaxy’s edge should have aliens walking around, and I think if they added alien cast members it would be way more immersive. Diagon alley doesn’t have this problem as half the people were walking around in their own robes, and you can expect muggle clothes there.
This is cool but what would have made it 10 times better is if the ride was set anytime between episode 1 – 6. The new movies just sucked so much, but I'll pretend to like them when I go to this ride one day.
They really couldn't open it on may 4th
The problem is that in Harry Potter 's world in Orlando you SEE what's in the movies….whereas in galaxy's edge the DIDN'T recreated any scenes from the movies instead the world is "based" on star wars.
NOT THE SAME
but where’s part 2 of Jenny Nicholson’s video
this is a big nope. disney doesn’t do any of that anymore in galaxies edge. it’s just another section of the park.
I love Rise of the Resistence…..it's frequently broke though!
Iger is back😳😳
I'm sure those experiences are fun, but the design of making waiting in line the main attraction feels incredibly cynical.
Just imagine how well it would have done if it had real Star Wars in it.
This place sucked ass and you’re wrong
You overhyping it bro
Bob Iger's back!
I HATE Disney. It's the champion of stereotypes, the very titan that it proports to defy. Hiding its bad deeds under the guise of fake diversity and pretend entertainmental awareness. It is the icon of one of the largest industries to cement sexism into society.
