New Delhi, India – May 1, 2024
At least six schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email on Wednesday morning, prompting evacuations and a major security response. The targeted schools included Delhi Public School (DPS) Dwarka and Vasant Kunj branches, Mother Mary School in East Mayur Vihar, Sanskriti School, Amity School in Pushp Vihar, and DAV School in South West Delhi. A similar threat was also reported at DPS Noida.
According to Delhi Police officials, upon receiving the emails at around 6:00 AM, school authorities immediately evacuated students and staff. Local police stations were alerted, and bomb disposal squads (BDS) along with fire tenders were rushed to the schools.
Thorough Searches Conducted, No Devices Found
A meticulous search operation was conducted at each school premise. Fortunately, no suspicious objects or explosives were found.
Investigation Points to Possible Use of VPN
Preliminary investigations suggest the emails originated from outside India. However, authorities suspect the IP addresses might be masked by a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service, making it difficult to pinpoint the exact source.
The Delhi Police are currently investigating the incident. No arrests have been made so far.
Officials Condemn Threats, Urge Public Caution
Delhi government officials have strongly condemned the bomb threats, calling them an attempt to disrupt peace and create panic. They urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately.
Schools to Resume Normal Operations
With the bomb threats deemed hoaxes, authorities have advised schools to resume normal operations on Thursday, May 2nd. However, they have also asked schools to maintain heightened security measures as a precaution.
This incident highlights the growing concern regarding school safety in India. It is important for schools to have robust security protocols in place to handle such situations effectively.
