It is time to turn a townhome into an off-grid Oasis. HUGE thanks to Solar Wholesale for designing my system. Get a $250 discount on your own DIY Solar kit here: https://www.solarwholesale.com/jerry-rig-everything/ Working with electricity is very dangerous. Make sure you know your local regulations and hire a certified electrician where needed. (Like I did here on my project.)
Tesla also has a fairly priced solar setup: https://ts.la/zack10701 (Tesla does need a battery backup to be ‘off grid’)

In Missouri they put a law in place to prevent HOAs from restricting the use of solar panels. The law takes effect in 2023.
Great video! As always! Thanks
Solar backup is nice but RIP grandma in the master bedroom when the day ends 😢
Dude I actually think that's pretty cool!
The guy is off Twitter I guess.
Nice job but you should have use the rail less racking system by SnapNRack
"Or grandma's oxygen" ahah
I'm not willing to fund the Chinese slave camps where 90% of solar panels and basically all of the raw materials are produced.
Was it safe for the solar panel to be stepped on? when you showed drone footage of the end install there were scratches and dirt all over the panels…WOW
when are the hummer videos coming back
It is cool that such systems are now possible to be installed by consumers. But in most cases, it is better to leave the power generation and management to grid level providers.
Ola amigo regalame un cel
2:58 sounds exactly like how plumbuses are made in Rick and Morty 🤣
In Orange California, they dont allow off grid, pathetic.
this enphase system look really janky, while the hybrid system is much cleaner to look and they can gracefully switch back and forth or even loadbalance between solar, grid and batteries (if available). I dont know, maybe enphase is just selling kinda outdated system for price reasons, though hybrid system is not that far expensive (maybe only 500-800USD pricier but worth it).
i havent thought "flimsy" in the last 5 years as often as i did seeing the construction of that house.. roof (or lets call it a lid), walls, wall insulation, mains cabinet…
is this one of those hollywood dreams, where it looks nice at first but all is fake ? is that stone wall out front actually stone or just for show glued onto paper mesh?
i hope the panels got cleaned afterwards, they clearly were not during the install.
Also since there was no trees, buildings shadows / partial covering of cells, why the need for all those single inverters ? Just because its the way the set comes ?
I don't know.. auto dropping off grid when the grid is out, then (auto) switching onto solar / battery /generator
and manually switching back when grid is back does not seem too complicated unless you have weekly blackouts.
"a town home is a human dwelling" quality content right there
👍
Watching this from India using electricity from my home solar battery backup ☀️
offgrid is sh.t, 30gwt solar gives less than 4gwt nuclear
You'd all love South Africa, anyone with some spare dosh is getting solar because our power is so interrupted (Loadshedding). It's a common flex/talking point at a braai/barbecue for people to talk about their solar installation.
It's good to see battery free solar inverter setups coming to market. For me I just want the ability to charge an electric car during the day with whatever the system will produce, no more no less.
its a human dwelling yall nothing interesting here 🙁
HOAs are monstrous.
Paper houses in America…my parents house will be here in 500 years if someone lives in it
Is this an investment property?
solar is not the answer. nuclear is.
Awesome
this is kinda useless, if theres a system with battery storage why get this overly expensive system?
Wouldn't this cost the HOA more money if they are responsible to replace the roof in the communities since you have to now also remove the solar panels to do the job?
Fantastic video. Your accent is so weird. Most people don't know that most solar inverters don't do anything if the grid goes down. Read IEEE 1547.
Former roofer here and I couldn't help but notice that at 3:53 the drone shot shows one of the install people on the roof without a rope. Lol.
Too bad for the shot of the guy with his foot on the panel at 7:09. I don't really think that's in the install plan.
My need to neatness just screams, "Don't they make a panel that's cut at 45 degrees!" 🙂
I hope the Enphase software/firmware updates are now current to fully support the full functionality you describe. I have a 2 yr old enphase system with limited battery backup for a similar critical load panel setup (like you have) with additional generator backup upon battery depletion. Unfortunately it took well over a year from the software and firmware to catch up to what I was sold and then had reporting problems and still have consumption reporting challenges they can't seem to address with my hybrid setup. Enphase also has mediocre support (it's hit and miss based on the rep you get). Hindsight is 20/20, but I should have gone with a solar only system pending the smartswitch and backup technologies being more mature (particularly the software and firmware).
3:38 the flashing is extending over the shingle line,
Micro fractures, weaved wires, no main breaker on any device, I would move that solar breaker to the bottom to avoid over heating
So are those panels doing nothing unless the power is out, or does it work like most solar with it still going into the house and the grid?
12:56 Ok so unless I'm misunderstanding, of the total solar power you have access too when the grid is on only 25% of that is usable during the "Sunlight Backup" scenario with the grid off. I wonder why that is…
The wire color mess gives me anxiety. Thank god for IEC.
Can you use an EV as battery backup for this system?
So having a battery makes the backup system useless right? Because as soon as the grid goes down the system switches to the battery, and if the battery is full it shuts down the panels?
People don't fall for this garbage it will coast you a lot of money and you'll see no return and you still get a electric bill. False narrative he is pushing all this dose is support big tech at you cost You end up losing run from this man and Solar only works good if your living out in the woods as for suburban life not so good
… or grandma's oxygen 😂
It’s panel time? I like big panels and I can not lie.
Just installed similar size “sunlight system”, so far not too impressed. Had to wait for for few hours till about 11am(to get ~3kw production) to even do function validation process with as little as about 200-250 watt load. Granted it is winter and I am in central/northern California. I would recommend at least one 3.3kw IQ battery.
Cool 👍
Where is the inverter
Some of that conduit install could be better.
It's only grid tied systems that shut off when the grid is out and then it's only the inverter. The panels still work. Even then there are ways to still use a grid tied system when the grid is down. With an off grid system it doesn't matter.
