Oh man! How many days I've lost trying to sort that resolution issue out. And there you go! Sorted. Thank YOU very much, Sir!
Exactly what I was looking for. Somehow I missed the timeline resolution-setting leading to less than optimal results when trying to render 21:9 (3440 x 1440) videos.
It wont let me save when choosing a custom option- save button is grayed out- any ideas
thanks,……………
Thanks you're a life saver!
Awesome stuff mate

Very useful video, thanks!
This helped
How do you do to have different resolution when your project has more than 1 timelines ?
Holy hell you go at a really easily understandable pace for pretty much anyone! I really only needed the first three minutes of the tutorial but I watched the rest just because of how nice it was. Dayum bro this is awesome 👍
I just watched another video from you and it answered my first question. Now for my second question I found this video and I got an answer. Thanks a lot!
You are beautiful. Thank you!
thanks BRO!
Cheers, this solved the issue I started having since updating to 17 when trying to add a project to the render cue. They told me to change the 'Timeline Format' in 'project settings', but I could not find 'project settings'. The first thing that I did was look at the 'timeline' menu to change a timeline related setting, which seemed logical. Davinci tend to make a lot of simple actions hard to figure out. They should work on making their GUI more intuitive and logical.
Thanks dude I was looking EVERYWHERE!
Hey, i have one question. So, if i shoot in 6k and want to export at 4k for youtube, can i use a 1080p timeline to edit it in and when it comes time for mw to export, change the timeline settings to 4k and export 4k without a loss in quality?
Thanks Very helpful Video
This was very helpful thank you
Thanks! This helped alot!
Thank you!
Thanks alot
sweet ty
Thanks. It is informative.
Is there any way to have Resolve automatically match the project settings (timeline and render) to the media being used? For example, if I import a 720x576p 24fps video, I want the the timeline and render settings to automatically match it instead of having to adjust everything manually. Hitfilm was able to do this.
HI, I shot on SONY fx9 4k, but is foceds to work on HD in Timeline, couse to lots of plugins, despite Nvidia 2080 Ti and powerful PC. but, I intedn to deliver the final movie to Emaxone Pirme, and obvoulsy render in 4k. IF I then before render jsut turn back to 4k in timeline, woulds not the picture just blow op, out of seize, and I gget another problem ?
2 Questions: 1) So say I have a 4k video that I set at 1080p timeline resolution. I want to export in 4k, however. Would I set timeline resolution to 1920×1080 (to help with render) and write 4k under "For:"? 2) Can you downscale even more in the timeline settings then upscale back to 1080p/4k before exporting or would that ruin all the effects/edits (as in the do not automatically scale back at high res)
My problem is, when I have a portrait mode of a video that is 1080p, even though render and project settings are @1080p HD, my output file is still shrunk. It is exactly like the example you showed where you cut it down to 192 x 108. Still scratching my head. Tried it with premier and the output was fine.
There is a minimum timeline resolution of 256 x 256 and apparently you can't go lower than that, unless I'm missing something.
Thank you so much, been looking everywhere for how to do this.
(side note: I suggest getting a pop filter to boost the quality of your voice recordings as the P's and T's in the vid were a little loud haha, great vid nonetheless.
Thank you!
Thanks!
good video good effort. If you can help. I have video mp4 recorded from mobile high res. Using DaVinci when i render/export it shows very small thumbnail while play in mobile.
Thank you
Thanks so much 🍀
BTW I subbed and to everybody who reads this should sub as well
Thanks for the info. I didn't even think about checking this setting page since I thought it'd be locked like the framerate ahah. Good thing we can change this anytime to save up on ram preview usage 🙂

thank you so much – From all video noobs in the world, much love
I've found that even though both the Edit timeline and output setting are identical.. both ultra HD that I still get the error menu Are you sure you want to add to render queue at a resolution larger than your timeline resolution?
thx very helpful
