Our desks weren’t made for us. They were made for everyone. So ergonomics expert Jon Cinkay from the Hospital for Special Surgery is here to show you how to make your desk and office chair adapt to you and not the other way around. Photo: Adam Falk/The Wall Street Journal

What are you doing wrong with your desk setup right now?
-Adam Falk, WSJ
What about lower back support?! I suffer with a lot of pain there
i did all the tips and its awesome. very different from my setup before. thank you for this.
All i did was technically adjust my monitor height…and hes right hes truly built for this moment
Please, is just to reduce the table height, dont buy anything for your 🦶, just cut of it
how to set up with a floor? Desk seems expensive.
Na ah! Never use a mouse if you are really interested in office ergonomics 🙄 You have to use a tablet with a stylus.
Reaching for my mouse by moving from my elbow is why I have tennis elbow.
Reems of paper, the movie.
having your eyesight align with the top of the screen makes no sense after you just said not to crane your neck. your eyesight should be closer to the middle of the screen since that's the part you look at most
None of these things are correct though… Literally none.
I don't like this as a gamer
we re callıng exercıces guys
0:55 imagine having paper in this day and age
Please maintain a good posture. I am suffering for not maintaining the ergonomics.
Me getting up from my seat infront of a class on a serious topic casually after an hour 🌝🤣🤣🤣
Desks with drawers above your knees are the worst. Either I keep hitting my knees on them, or I need to have my chair so low that my elbows are below the height of the desktop. Also, why is that desk so high?
awesome! what is "phone"?
I don't think desk ergonomics is a "one size fits all" solution. Go to a physical therapist for an evaluation and if they clear you, don't change anything.
Learn how to build your own desk, it's a lot easier than you think. This way you can adjust your chair to the keyboard height and be able to have your feet resting on the floor.
Posture is very important and it can go well beyond pain. If the problem is severe enough it can cause weight gain, tinnitus, vision problems, nerve discomfort, TMJ disorder, and much more. I recommend that everyone goes to see a physical therapist or chiropractor at least once a year. You don't want what i've been going through for the past 2 years.
1:34 this is not correct, I cannot recommend to do this. My dad used to work like this and got serious pain in his neck as he always turns his head a little bit to one monitor. Better work with one monitor straight to your face.
For gaming though I like pushing my keyboard to the left so I dont have to put my arm too close to my body
"If you don't have access to a foot rest" sounds a tad insane. In Australia, Workplace Health And Safety says your workplace is responsible for giving you an appropriate work space, and that includes appropriate furniture.
Still applies to people doing personal stuff at home on a budget I suppose.
I work from home, but I'm also low vision + blind, so some of this is difficult to manage 😛
Think I'm really gonna do the, "get up every hour", part… Get me away from a screen for a few minutes 🙂
Ok, now i know how to setup my desk: just use a ream of paper
would rather setup a "rotatable desk" where you could lay down your back on a fixed angle.
Now if only I can get more comfortable while working on my laptop in bed.
Clutter…a lot of it!
The ergonomic aspects related to the work setup are not a game in the least, taking into account the number of hours we spend daily on this furniture. Misuse can lead us to carry much more serious diseases or ailments than is thought. If we add to that the "style" factor and everything related to the aesthetics of the environment, the task becomes more complicated. My current desk is a Protractor desk from Manhattan Home Design and it truly is a model that I'm proud of for how it looks, how it feels, and how well it has worked for me. Thanks for these helpful guides!
Thanks for the tips.
Though I don't agree with getting up every hour to get something to eat 😉
That habit won't turn out good.
And I'm really surprised not to hear a single word about using an ergonomic keyboard. A must for anyone who has to type a lot.
who uses a phone that heavy😂
If you are spending 8 hours a day at a desk (at work or your home office) I would say that investing in an electric height-adjustable desk is totally worth the added costs? Wondering how an Ergonomics Expert can make a 3+ minutes how-to guide, without mentioning this option? 🙂
