Destroying his own team: Fans slam Virat Kohli after 33-ball 30 vs Chennai Super Kings

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Virat Kohli came under fire after he scored an uncharacteristic 33-ball 30 against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday, May 4 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune.

The 33-year-old has looked in awful form in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), having scored only 216 runs from 11 innings at an average of 21.60 and a strike rate of 111.91. After scoring back-to-back golden ducks, Kohli scored his maiden fifty in the ongoing season against the Gujarat Titans (GT), but he was greeted with flak for his indifferent strike rate.

It wasn’t any different for Kohli on Wednesday as he huffed and puffed at a strike rate of less than a run-a-ball. After being put into bat first, RCB scored 57 runs in the powerplay and skipper Faf du Plessis did most of the scoring. The Delhi-born Kohli, on the other hand, smashed three fours and one six, but failed to rotate the strike on a consistent basis.

Kohli’s vigil in the middle came to an end after Moeen Ali castled him in the penultimate ball of the 10th over. The tweaker bowled one outside the off-stump and Kohli went for an expansive drive through the off-side. But the 33-year-old Kohli missed the ball altogether and saw his stumps go for a walk.

Kohli had got his eyes in and his team would have expected him to carry on and get a big score. But that, unfortunately, wasn’t the case. The social media followers, in the meantime, weren’t happy with Kohli by any stretch of the imagination and lashed out at the veteran for the lacklustre knock.
